(pssssst….when I make it to 10,000 followers there will be a big giveaway you won’t want to miss, just sayin’)

Last week in Chat #325 Mirror Mirror On The Wall I asked, don’t you wish you could find someone who’s lost weight before, done some things right, has been around the block a time or two but lived to tell about it, you know…someone who really gets what you’re going through.

Good news! Just look in the mirror…that person is YOU!

While you are trying to decide if you really are the best person to talk about this (and you are!) just remember this:  When Nothing Goes Right, Go Left!

All Systems Go

Think back to a time when you lost weight and how it made you feel. Or maybe a time when your fitness was on point and you loved the way you looked walking away from a mirror. Now list 3 things that were happening during that time that led to your success. Things like:

  1. When I lived in a neighborhood with sidewalks I walked almost every day and sometimes twice a day
  2. My job was a little less demanding and I had time for meal prep which made making a low point choice a lot easier
  3. The kids were at a good age to help me experiment in the kitchen which made meal planning and eating a lot more enjoyable for all of us

Failure To Launch

Now think about a time when it seemed like you just couldn’t get it together. Look at your trusted person in the mirror and name 3 things (OUT LOUD!) that you felt were a failure to launch like:

  1. My spouse’s job keeps them from eating dinner with me so I just grab whatever is on the way home or munch on easy things in front of the tv
  2. Stupid Covid disrupted my workout routine and now I’m too out of shape to do what I was doing before
  3. I don’t understand how to do the new WW Program so I just eat whatever I want and don’t bother tracking it

Go Left

When nothing goes right…go left!  It works for race car drivers and it can work for you too!

Let’s just use the first failure to launch example “my spouse’s job keeps me from eating dinner with them so I just munch in front of the tv.”  Well that’s ME, and I’m turning LEFT by sharing a garden with my neighbor, investing in an Instant Pot and learning how to use it, and making lots of put up in the freezer grab and heat up meals that I can enjoy while we chat about our day or watch an episode of Bones together!

Your homework was… #GoLeft. This isn’t your first rodeo. You’ve had some successes, I promise there are times you can look back on and use them for days when everything seems to be going wrong.  This week I want you to Go Left by looking in that magic mirror and telling yourself one way you can stop circling in the “nothing is going right” spiral by going LEFT. Then type it, snap it, share it however you like, and then tag me for your next cool badge!

  • Sherry is currently taking a blood thinner and was advised to cool it with the Vitamin K intake, so she’s going Left and learning to love kale!
  • Phyllis wants to make refrigerator tea but can’t handle extra caffeine. #goleft She’s going to dig out some decaf tea!
  • This week Deanna did her homework without even realizing it LOL.  She is going left and trying some Mediterranean meals. Deanna has been going right & it’s not working for her right now so she’s mixing it up with some new recipes!

Bravo, you did it!

This Week’s Topic: “How To Make Healthy Decisions Easier!”

Who spent more time looking through Instant Pot videos than actually making food this week?

Oh just me?  Huh…

Maybe it was IP recipe binging or accidentally eating all your #PurseCheck snacks while you wait for swim lessons to end, intending to do something and actually following through can be a challenge sometimes can’t it?

Three Fast Facts from WW:

Mind Your Mouth

Research shows that just “saying” you will do something does not mean you will actually do it.  How many times has your spouse or significant other said “I’ll be right there to help with those dishes or dirty diaper” and never makes it to your side of the house? I rest my case.

Planning Makes Perfect

Well maybe not perfect, but a heck of a lot better anyway. Planning all of the details ahead of time significantly increases your chances of doing the thing.

If This, Then That

Planning also helps to make sure that whatever it is you want to do better aligns with your goals AND it can also help deflect those pesky interrupters that often get in our way of doing what we intended. Things like “If we’re going to go out on Friday nights, then I will being half of my meal home and eat it for lunch with a zero point #bulkitup food the next day” or “If I feel like munching after dinner every night, then I will set a timer and only eat if I still feel like it after 30 minutes”

This Week’s Homework: #IfThisThenThat

Your homework for this week is #IfThisThenThat. Making healthier decisions is so much easier if you make those decisions NOW when you’re not in the middle of it.  I guarantee something already popped in your head while we were talking, right it down, do your homework and that decision will be a snap next time!  Then type it, snap it, share it however you like, and then tag me for your next cool badge!

Extra Credit: Hard Boiled Eggs Test – IP vs Air Fryer!

So I’ve had my Instant Pot out of the box for a little over a week now and the “playing instead of cooking food” has already begun! If you’ve been following along all these years you already know I can’t hardboil an egg successfully on the stove top (please don’t give me advice, I’ve done them all LOL). In 2019 though I discovered a game changer idea…hard boiling the eggs in my air fryer. Glory hallelujah deviled eggs, egg salad, you name it, it was back on the menu.

BUT! So many of my IP loving friends have challenged me to try them in the Instant Pot. I thought we would have a duel LIVE tonight. Air Fryer versus Instant Pot…who do you think will win?

We started with the instant pot since I am more versed in the air fryer. I bought a silicone holder to keep the eggs in place and put 2 eggs in at room temperature. Then you add a cup of water, put the lid on, and set the instant pot to Pressure Cook, high, and 5 minutes. Orlando Debbie recommended 3 minutes, but I am basing this off of the instructions. Make sure the instant pot is also on seal, and after it is done cooking we will let it do a natural release for 5 more minutes.

While that preheats, I will put the eggs in the air fryer. Now, I’ve done this many many times before, so I know what to do with the air fryer. I put 2 more eggs in the air fryer basket, put it on 260 and 16 minutes. We do NOT put water in the air fryer! Then we wait to see the results!

I put both batches in an ice bath to cool down, now let’s see what happens once they are peeled.

The instant pot egg cracked and came out of the shell pretty easily, so that’s a good sign! It’s intact, and when sliced there was a green line around the yolk. Which apparently is why you only do 3 minutes in the instant pot! 5 Minutes creates the green line, but 3 minutes shouldn’t make that happen. The green line might mean it is overcooked, according to a few of you in the comments while we were live.

The air fryer eggs peeled easily and were completely intact. Sliced easily and it is beautifully yellow! Now I wonder if the test between the two would be closer with the correct cooking time in the instant pot. I will be doing further investigation on my Instagram, so please make sure you are following me there too!

Early conclusion is that the air fryer is my winner… for now. The air fryer egg is yellow and pretty in the center, but the instant pot peeled better. I’m a sucker for a pretty egg though!

Keep watching for more testing, playing, and recipes! I’m so excited and you should be too.
