News and Reviews

  • Today is the start of the “Build A Meal Focused on Zero Point Foods!” challenge hosted by Julie over on the If You Have an Egg Facebook Group. It’s not a competition, just a great way to challenge yourself and get some extra encouragement!
  • I have had three different people in three settings either mention, serve me or give me a recipe using Hot Honey. I mean it makes sense. Hot meets sweet. Who doesn’t love that? But in my research it looks like the points can vary wildly from 2 points for a tablespoon to a whopping 5 points for the same. Anyone have a recommendation before I go on the hunt?
  • An unnamed contributor sent me a cute little veggie chopping set that we will be testing out in the second half but here is the link in case you don’t make it farther into the guts of the written part of this chat https://amzn.to/3zaevfe

Last week was Chat #379 “How To Turn Your Mini Win Into Lasting Inspo!”

According to AI (which I was extremely uncomfortable to use by the way): A superhero is a character with extraordinary powers that performs heroic actions. Unlike police, firefighters or doctors, all of whom are heroes in their own right, superheroes are defined by their unique capabilities, such flight, strength, speed or invincibility

Are you a superhero? Let’s find out!

What is a mini win?

Let’s think about this in football terms just because it’s easy to know if you won.

The UT Vols played Chattanooga on Saturday in our season home opener. Our team won 69 to 3 so that’s a big win right?  But there were many mini wins along the way, you know small victories that are to be celebrated just as much as that big number on the scoreboard.

  • The weather in KTown was predicted to be hot temps and bad storms. While it was a scorcher, the storms held off and the game went off without a weather hitch – mini win!
  • Our friends Troy and Lara watched their son Eli run through the Power T for the first time – mini win!
  • A previously shy, soft spoken classmate was asked by 11 different people (working, attending or sitting on the sidelines) to tell them about Christ before the game – mini WIN!

What Counts?

It’s YOUR win…you get to decide!

Back to Super Heroes and all that stuff

Superheroes are defined by their capabilities, such flight, strength, speed or invincibility

  • Did you not only keep small children alive this week but send them out into the world with clean clothes and a full tummy? Boom. Superhero.
  • Did you keep 20+ women accountable for a daily exercise and make it fun while they were doing it? Boom. Superhero.
  • Did you leave work one day this week tired, with too much left to do, and a list a mile long but you still made it to your WW workshop? Boom. Superhero.

Your homework was #CallingAllSuperHeroes!. You had a mini win this week, I know you did. You did something that defined your unique capabilities.Tell us just one and boom. Superhero.

  • Deanna’s super power is planning meals that are budget friendly. The meal she posted in the IYHAE Group was $10.07 total, and worked out to $1.68 a serving
  • Lynn is the ultimate positive person for those that are in need and don’t even know it. A positive word, a sweet meme, she’s a superhero if you ask me!
  • Gwen’s super power is being able to eat the same meals over and over without getting bored. Make for some easy meal prep and tracking!

Bravo, you did it!

This Week’s Topic: “How To Take Charge Of Unhelpful Thoughts!”

We chatted about setbacks and their potential to be a setup for what’s coming next next. But what if your little voice gets in the way again?

Here’s the thing, Thoughts are Not Facts. Let’s dig in!

Face your accuser

What is that voice accusing you of? Falling off the wagon? Failing yourself or your family? Abandoning your why? Face that accuser and ask it what the heck it’s accusing you of!

Talk to the hand

Literally put your hand up. Put some distance between yourself and the accusation. I know it’s you talking to you, but it works

Thoughts Are Not Facts

No matter what that little voice says, just because it’s a thought doesn’t mean it’s a fact.  Here are a few examples:

  • Thought – “I’m a terrible person because I ate some ice cream I hadn’t planned for”. Fact – you are not a terrible person, you just ate something you hadn’t planned for. But another fact is you had made a plan!
  • Thought – “Nothing ever goes my way”. Fact – lots of things go your way. You made Vitamin D with your daughter today. The sun was shining. The weather was cooler and there was a crispness in the air. Lots of things went your way today.
  • Thought – “I’ll never reach my goal”. Fact – maybe you’ve got the wrong goal. Maybe you should just reframe it. Maybe you could go back and watch one of our chats about setting reachable goals and go get it. You CAN reach your goal, fact!

This Week’s Homework: #ThoughtsAreNotFacts

Your homework for this week is #ThoughtsAreNotFacts. You had an unwelcome thought from that little voice this week. Maybe it was today. I did, so I know you did. Tell us that thought and then tell us a real FACT about what’s really going on.  Now DO YOUR HOMEWORK because I promise there is someone who needs the idea you have already rattling around in your head. Whatever it is let us know, I promise your decision to participate this week will help you AND someone else!  Then type it, snap it, share it however you like, and then tag me for your next cool badge!

Don’t forget to do your homework #ThoughtsAreNotFacts and tag me when you share on social media!

The Amazon Wish List is UP and I so appreciate your support. This will provide a way for us to continue testing products for you, trying out new gadgets and recipes, and refilling the IYHAE pantry since it doesn’t look like the budget cuts are budging. If you don’t already know, it costs more than $100 per week to provide this free content to you and that doesn’t include my time. Your support really does help keep us going!

Amazon Wish List can be found here:  If You Have an Egg Support Wish List

The cool aluminum bottle spring water I tested during the break is The Mountain Valley Spring Water. The unique container (no glass) is safe to take to swimming pools, sporting events and more. The aluminium makes for a super cold drink with no added flavor from plastic or other containers. And because the container is 100% aluminium you can recycle it in any municipal recycling center. I did find the flavor from this spring a little “soapy”? I don’t know how else to describe it. We have springs here in Knoxville and I used to live on a small farm with a spring. The final flavor is dependent on what kind of cistern the spring runs though and I can’t quite put my finger on this one. Not objectionable, just worth a mention! Extra Credit:  8 in 1 Veggie Chopper Test

For the past few weeks, Casey has been putting our Amazon wishlist in the middle of the blog post to give people the opportunity to send us fun things to try on the chat videos. Someone sent us an 8 in 1 veggie chopper, and we are going to test it tonight!

Some of you remember that a little bit ago, I actually lost a bit off one of my fingers because of a mandolin. But I promise that this veggie chopper didn’t get me! However, there is one complaint I have about this one… it didn’t come with instructions! We found a similar instruction manual on TikTok, so we are going to be using that to guide ourselves.

The first little thing won’t be tested since I’ll be testing with potatoes, but it is an egg separator! It slides down into the tabs that are on top of the tub and it holds the egg while the yolk and egg whites are coming out. Pretty neat!

The next thing pops in at the top of the chopper, and it almost looks like the green “base” that you would put legos on. Lily and I tried our best to figure out what it was, and our best theory is that it is used to push the veggies into whatever you are using to chop them.

The next things are all the different ways to chop veggies!

  1. The first chopper is to make large cubes. I chopped the potatoes and they ended up looking like huge french fries!
  2. The second chopper is a similar thing, but a smaller grid. So it makes smaller cubes or slices. It would be good for zucchini, onions, or maybe eggs!
  3. The last few go into the tab spot on the top, more like a mandolin. The first attachment is just plastic, so we think that it is probably for something soft like garlic or a zester like lemon or lime.
  4. The next one looked like a wavy edge, and I got to use the little safety tool. It made the cutest little crinkle cut potatoes!
  5. Next up was a couple different sizes of julienne blade. They cut the potato into adorable little tiny fries and hashbrowns!!
  6. This one is the dreaded mandolin blade. I had on the safety glove AND used the safety tool, so no fingers were harmed in the making of this video!
