I follow a couple of Trader Joe’s employees who are also doing Weight Watchers on Instagram which is either a blessing or a curse, the jury is still out. On the one hand they always post the points plus for all the new things they are trying in store. But…they post all the new things they are trying in the store. And I’ve kinda sorta been having an affair with TJ lately so it’s a win win or a lose lose depending on my willpower that day. The number of new items they have suggested that I did not like are exactly let’s see…one, two, three…ummm…ZERO.
After one of those posts I left my granite showroom and drove directly to Trader Joe’s. I did not pass go. I did not collect $200. Two recycle bags later I had most (if not all) of the new items posted that day including this. Trader Joe’s Sriracha and Garlic BBQ Sauce (see my Product Review here) and after one try I was hooked. I have tried it on chicken. Slow cooked it with Meatless Meatballs. Even snuck it in on my husband one evening when he came in late and I whipped up Franks N’ Beans with a Kick!. I’ve even just “accidentally” run my finger across the lid and licked it off…it’s that good.
What goes better with spicy than anything else? If you guessed sweet you are the big winner. And what goes better with spicy and sweet? I am confident you did not guess fresh mozzarella because that delicious and delightful combo was a surprise for me too. But you are reading this recipe and considering making it so you are still the big winner.
Sweet N’ Spicy Turkey Burger – 10 Points Plus
Ingredients:
- 2 slices hearty whole grain bread
- 1 Jennie-O Turkey Burger (cook according to package instructions)
- 1 oz fresh mozzarella
- 1/4 cup crushed pineapple in juice (drained)
- 1 tbsp Trader Joe’s Sriracha and Garlic BBQ Sauce (I can actually do 2 tbsp but my husband said to dial it back a notch for “civilians” hahaha)
Cook Turkey Burger according to package instructions. When it’s just done add the crushed pineapple and mozzarella, cover lightly with aluminum foil, and reduce heat to low. After 5 minutes check to see if mozzarella is melting. While the cheese is melting lightly toast the hearty whole grain bread. Once mozzarella is starting to run down the side of the turkey burger, remove and place on one slice of the bread. Drizzle with the TJ’s Sriracha BBQ, top with other slice of bread and prepare to drool. I’m not going to lie, I licked the plate.
