In case you hadn’t looked at a calendar lately…Thanksgiving is upon us! If you haven’t already made your holiday plans you miiiiiight want to get started on that. Great ideas
from our If You Have an Egg Facebook Support Group include:
- Wear clothes that fit and have a waistband or buttons…much less likely to overeat if you start to feel full sooner than you would in your buffet pants!
- Wait until last to go through line, everything is less appetizing when it’s had that many spoons already in it
- Use smaller plates…your eyes will see a full plate
- Keep crunchy veggies or fruit at hand if you are the one preparing the meal. Less likely to do so many “taste tests”
- Serve the meal at your house so you have more control over the menu
- Provide inexpensive containers for guests to take home leftovers (especially the ones that are likely to get you in trouble later!)
- Make a plan, even if the plan is to not count points and just enjoy in moderation for that one meal
- Thanksgiving is just one day…enjoy your family and friends!
Speaking of Thanksgiving being just one day, how many of you have other activities that long weekend that are a bigger challenge than the turkey day meal itself? I know for us the actual meal gets easier every year as all the kids get older. There is less formality, less pressure to make it to every single in-law and even a few out-law’s houses all in one day, and the food selections can be modified without much squawking or squalling. But the Friday after? That’s where I’m going to have trouble. Since my daughter was old enough to enjoy the “festivities” of Black Friday shopping we’ve been going. She’s 22 now and while we don’t go at 4am any more we still go. Just watching other people sometimes makes the outing worth it. But she and I can get in a world of trouble when our morning starts early, Panera looks dry and warm, and we don’t plan before we go. If we don’t eat before we go suddenly bear claws as big as your head with $1 shortbread cookies start to sound mighty appetizing. And in an early morning rage of hunger sounds like a good idea. (psssssst it’s not)
