Last week was Chat #385 “Your Activity Identity!”

If you’re a Criminal Minds, Law & Order or even old school dragnet watcher you’ve heard the term M.O. or Modus Operandi, meaning the criminal’s distinctive patterns of behavior
mo·dus op·e·ran·di
/ˌmōdəs ˌäpəˈrandē,ˌmōdəs ˌäpəˈranˌdī/
Noun
a particular way or method of doing something, especially one that is characteristic or well-established.

Well we’re not talking about criminals here, but when it comes to activity we have an MO. What’s yours? Let’s dig in!

This is not about exercise

Tonight’s topic is not about exercise per se. WW wanted us to “craft an activity that feels right for you”. So I decided tonight’s chat is about a distinctive pattern of behavior that gets you moving in a way that isn’t necessarily exercise.

What’s Your MO?

Dig deep. Stop and think a little. In Sunday School we say that no matter what the question is don’t panic. The answer is always Jesus. Well I don’t want your panic Jesus! response. Really think about this. What is an MO (distinctive pattern of behavior) for you that’s not really an exercise. Crawling after toddlers? Gardening while the sun’s out? Blowing bubbles at the nursing home?

Dig a little deeper, really think!

What’s the MO On Your T-shirt?

Let’s pretend we are making a T-Shirt that has our activity MO on it. Mine might say “I baby hike (with a water destination)”. My friend Becky’s would be “I do all my physical therapy every day”. What’s yours?

Your homework was #WhatsOnYourShirt. Sooo easy and you get to make a virtual pretend t-shirt!

  • Sylvia is an awesome baseball grandma and her t-shirt would say “I Walk Fields for Grandkids!”
  • Sherry’s shirt would say “I’m a Dancer!”
  • Casey’s shirt would say “I’m a Danny Go Goer!”

Bravo, you did it!

This Week’s Topic: Shrink It, Swap It, Skip It or Savor It!”

My favorite episode of SNL contains a Jeopardy Skit featuring comedians portraying Burt Reynolds, Jerry Lewis and Sean Connery. I always thought Sean Connery was one of the dreamiest Hollywood actors and his accent just drove that home for me. In this particular episode he chooses a category called swords for $400. Alex Trebek played by Will Farrell corrects him, the category is “S” Words but Sean completely ignores him and carries on. I love it, it’s worth a quick watch here if you’ve never seen it!

It’s 32 days until Thanksgiving. You’re going to have alot of “S” Words coming up really soon. Let’s start working on them now!

“S” Words for $400 Alex

We only have one category tonight folks and that is swords…I mean “S” Words for $400 Alex. This holiday season you will have to make alot of “S” Word decisions. Let’s use Thanksgiving as an example and explore “S” Words like:

  • “S”hrink – there will be foods on your Thanksgiving menu that you want to enjoy but could probably get by with a little less than a serving. For me that would be pumpkin pie. I like it, it likes me, but we’re not best friends you know? So I usually opt to “shrink” it by getting full on all the really good stuff first and then going in for a sliver. It’s even better if I wait until everyone else has helped themselves
  • “S”wap – because we all have our specialties, I use the list I am assigned to swap out some higher point things like green bean casserole with my zero point green beans. And I’m always up for a good swap using fat free cream cheese!
  • “S”kip – I don’t know about you but I’m skipping anything I can get year round. I also skip anything that isn’t “thanksgiving-y” like sweetened or alcoholic point laden drinks, “normal” sweets and treats, or food to be eating just to be eating it

“S”avor – no here is the list I like to daydream about days, even weeks in advance. There are some foods that we literally only get at Thanksgiving and I WILL BE SAVORING them. Things like: loaded mashed potatoes, sweet potato casserole, parker house rolls…with REAL butter

This Week’s Homework: #SwordsFor$400

Your homework for this week is #SwordsFor$400. Take 10 minutes and think about a food you know for sure you have coming up (my example was Thanksgiving) and pick just one “S” Word and tell us what you’ll do with it!  Now DO YOUR HOMEWORK because I promise there is someone who needs the idea you have already rattling around in your head. Whatever it is let us know, I promise your decision to participate this week will help you AND someone else!  Then type it, snap it, share it however you like, and then tag me for your next cool badge!

Don’t forget to do your homework #SwordsFor$400 and tag me when you share on social media!

Extra Credit: Spooky Halloween 7 Layer Dip!

It’s almost Halloween!! It’s the week of Halloween, and what better to make but a Spooky Halloween 7 Layer Dip!

We went to a Halloween party at one of Alyssa’s friend’s houses last week, and this mom really goes all out. She is a self proclaimed maximalist. She loves to go over the top to have a fun party for the kiddos, and it really showed! Especially with the food. All of the foods were Halloween themed, but the one that caught my eye (and that Beau ate 3 bowls of!) was the 7 layer dip. The adorable spider web of sour cream on the top was enough to get my WW brain spinning on how to make this dip while also making it WW friendly.

The recipe I used as my base is from Six Sister Stuff, but here is a list of the changes that I made.

  • Instead of regular Refried Beans, I used La Preferida Fat Free Refried Beans. The whole can is ZERO POINTS!
  • The taco seasoning I used was reduced sodium, just because no one needs all of that sodium!
  • I swapped out the regular sour cream for lite sour cream.
  • I made my own salsa and I made it kinda chunky to hold it in the dip better.

The way I made it, there are 10 servings and they should be about 4 pts per servings! A great addition to a Halloween party to keep you within your points while still having fun.

Will you be making this for your spooky celebrations for Halloween? Let us know in the comments below!
