03/21/17 Update! If you haven’t tried the new Halo Top flavors I need you to stop what you are doing and go find them. Like now.
You know me, if I try something and love it you will hear about it. If I try something and don’t like it, you will still hear about it! Traditional ice cream is a red light food for me just like chips…an open container is an empty container. This year of serious weight watchering and now maintenance has kept me to limited or no ice cream purchases. That makes me sad, but my waist line happy. Until now.
I’m not going to pretend like I’ve tried every ice cream type treat, or even very many of them. Remember, if I buy it I’m going to eat it. But when a representative from Halo Top very sweetly asked if I would give theirs a try I thought well gee, it’s for her…and she was so sweet…and it’s just one container…how wrong could I go? Turns out even if I went completely bizerk and ate the entire container of the Vanilla Bean flavor I would have only invested 9 points. I’ve blown 9 points just walking by the front door of Ben & Jerry’s and smelling the freshly baking waffle cones.
First glance it looks creamy, not icy like so many frozen treats. I’m an ice “cream” girl not an ice “milk” girl…there IS a difference! Scoopability was really good, it was smooth and easy to get out with a regular spoon or with an ice cream scoop. No sitting on the counter, heating the spoon/scoop, or holding my tongue just right to get it to come out. Color was what I expected, didn’t look artificial or that super white “I’m not real food” that so many frozen treats give off. I could imagine real vanilla beans and what the bottom of that container was going to look like. I was getting kind of excited.
Then the real test…the taste test. I was surprised by how creamy it was. This is only a teeny bit more fat in this product than others I had tried and wowzers it makes a difference. This tastes like ice cream, real legit ice cream. I put it through my paces: straight off a spoon, blended in with fruit, on top of a heated Fiber One brownie, in the Ninja Bullet with crushed up cookies. Good heavens this stuff is good, and I only had the vanilla. I can’t imagine what the actual flavors are going to be like and I can’t wait to try. One problem, my grocery store only had the vanilla bean and chocolate. I’m not a chocolate ice cream girl (or a chocolate cake girl…or a chocolate candy girl…I know, I’m weird) so vanilla was it. BUT never fear, the Halo Ice Cream people have thought of everything and here is a handy dandy product request form that I personally will be printing out and taking in to my favorite grocer. Link to the handy dandy form Handy Dandy Halo Top form
So in summary, this is a keeper and will be frequently in my freezer. This was well worth the 8 points plus if I went cu-razy. Let me know what you think ok?
