News and Reviews

  • Today is the first day of the “Make a Colorful Plate!” Challenge hosted by Julie over on the If You Have an Egg Facebook Group. Hop in any time, it’s not a competition with anyone but yourself!
  • Only 2 days left to get yourself a smartphone or tablet before the desktop version of WW removes many of the tracking and Connect features we’ve been able to find there. April 30th is the official end date to the desktop version of many of those features!
  • There is a new feature already released for update that we will be discussing later in the chat in more detail. Have you seen the new Grocery Lists feature yet?

Review Last Week: Last week was Chat #361 “How To Hack Your Points Budget!”

No matter how busy (or crazy!) life gets I try to carve out time for my Tuesday night WW meeting, Mondays with Alyssa and Danny Go Dance offs with Beau.

Just like you, I am allotted 24 hours each day. 168 hours per week. With two small businesses, a family, and a multitude of responsibilities I have developed a few “hacks” or ways to make sure I fit in that handful of things that is most important to me and protect it like my  life depended on it. Because some weeks it does…

Your weekly points budget should be treated with the same sense of importance. This journey is important to you so let’s hack it!

Pro tips for a hacking that points budget:

Knowing Before You’re Going

We talked about this last week, but honestly knowing the points values for everything you plan on enjoying BEFORE you eat it is the best hack you can learn. Checking out a restaurant beforehand. Knowing the points value of things you have on hand or have gathered around you, both are an important piece to this hackable puzzle! We will chat more about this in the second half!

Pre-Track Hack

Tracking ahead of time serves a couple of purposes:

  • You know how many points you have available so you can plan around the special food or meal
  • It’s easier to stick with your original decision when it’s already on paper (or in your app)
  • Even if you stray off the plan a little, you can hold  your head high because you made a decision rather than letting the decision happen to/for you…go you!

Never Say Never!

The nice thing about the WW program is that “no” is never the answer. Back in the day we had a list of no no foods, forbidden foods, and even things we were required to eat in certain quantities or frequencies. Gone are the days of No and Never!  Now we can choose whether we would rather do or have this, or simply choose something else. Or simply a different way to get to the result we want!

Hacks that lead to a YES include:

  1. Using your zero point foods to your advantage
  2. #bulkitup
  3. Using those weeklies and rollovers!\

Your homework was #NeverSayNever. This week’s homework is a no brainer, really. All you have to do is think of something you want to include coming up (it might be every Friday night pizza or a once a year sweet treat you can only get at a family reunion) and tell us one hack you will use to never say never again!

  • Mary Ann never ever wants to say never with lasagna! So she lightens it up with her own sauce and light cheese. Then she portions and freezes the rest so she has it when she’s ready and already knows the points ahead of time!
  • Carol Lou also loves pasta and never wants to go without. This week, instead of her usual salads for lunch she made a nice, healthy pasta salad with tortellini. You can check out her “recipe” over on the IYHAE group in the comments to this post!
  • Deanna uses her own weeklies and sometimes calls her accountabilibuddy Julie to borrow some of her weeklies too when making eating out choices LOL. She also takes advantage of low/zero point foods when she knows they will be eating out!

Bravo, you did it!

This Week’s Topic: “How To Make Grocery Shopping Easier!”

Are you a:

-List Maker / Keeper?

-Aisle Wanderer?

-App Lady all the way?

None of those three is right…or wrong…but recognizing how you decide what goes in your cart (whether physical or virtual) can help make your grocery shopping easier!

Pro tips for hacking that grocery shopping:

App Lady all the way

As much as Covid stunk, it introduced so many of us to doing our grocery shopping with an app like InstaCart, Thrive and even Door Dash Grocery Delivery. If you haven’t tried it you can usually get the first delivery free to just check it out. If you’re a pro like my daughter’s neighbor you already know these grocery shopping benefits of being an App Lady:

  • No kids or spouses sneaking things into the buggy while you aren’t looking
  • No “in the moment” shopping while you’re hungry or distracted
  • Forgot your shopping list? No problem! Most of those apps store your most common purchases so you never forget something you always keep on hand

Aisle Wanderer

I’ll admit it…this is me. I am at the age where I can wander around the grocery store with no one in tow and just relax while I check out new labels or scan item after item. This method isn’t for everyone but I find it helps me hack that grocery shopping by:

  1. Finding sales I didn’t even know existed (and sometimes free oat milk!)
  2. Keeping me interested by introducing new items or finding new things
  3. Some weeks our meal plan is literally the prize from the grocery scavenger hunt game. It gets pretty interesting some weeks getting home and finding out what I can make!

List Maker / Keeper

If making lists and checking them twice is your thing, more power to you! Even if it’s not check out this new feature on your WW App to make grocery shopping lists easier, meal planning a breeze, and never be caught off guard without an ingredient for a recipe again!

This Week’s Homework: #ShowMeYourList

Your homework for this week is #ShowMeYourList. This week’s homework is so much fun even if you don’t like making grocery lists! Just open your WW app, check out the new feature I just told you about and show us what’s in your grocery list!  Type it, snap it, tell it.   Now DO YOUR HOMEWORK because I promise there is someone who needs the idea you have already rattling around in your head. Whatever it is let us know, I promise your decision to participate this week will help you AND someone else!  Then type it, snap it, share it however you like, and then tag me for your next cool badge!

Don’t forget to do your homework #ShowMeYourList and tag me when you share on social media!

Extra Credit: TikTok Recipe Test – Yogurt Custard Bread

Orlando Debbie suggested a few weeks ago that we try the viral recipe, Yogurt Custard Bread! It has gone wild on TikTok, and it is a custard version of French Toast. We are testing it today and let’s see what we think!

I found an air fryer recipe for us to test out today, and I will go ahead and say… I changed just a few things from the original recipe.

Air Fryer Recipe (original from Lena’s Kitchen):

  • Bread (we are using sourdough)
  • Custard made of 1 cup of plain non fat yogurt & 1 large egg
  • A little Swerve sweetener
  • Powdered sugar at the end

We assemble them by making a dent into the bread and pouring in the custard… then popping it in the air fryer on 380 for 10 minutes! How easy is that??

Now, I’ll be honest. I don’t understand why this is a viral recipe. I will not be making a full recipe post about it, because I would rather just make good old-fashioned French Toast! There are many WW recipes to make French Toast points friendly, and it is much better in my opinion.

Did my adjustments make a difference? Maybe. But I still wasn’t impressed with this one overall.

Would you make this viral Yogurt Custard bread, or would you stay with the tried and true French Toast?
