Sunday my Accountabilibuddy and I walked six and a half miles. That is officially our longest single walk to date and our screaming thigh muscles would make you think it was uphill both ways…in the snow…and that we fought off a bear with a spiral bound notebook. We may not have had buns of steel when we finished but we were pretty darn proud of our accomplishment. Know what our bigger feat of strength was though? We passed a posse of adorable, sash wearing, smiling faces taunting us with once a year delights. Talk about creating a demand. What better way to encite a crowd than introduce a sweet treat, get everyone hooked…and then take it away. For a year! The very definition of entice so perfectly fits this scenario “attract or tempt by offering pleasure or advantage”. Wow those tiny scouts are conniving in their adorableness.
And come on, even Leo was eating them at the Oscars. What kind of crack are they putting in these things? I seriously don’t even think White Truffles and Beluga Caviar create such a frenzy. It’s insane…but we have to get ready…THEY ARE ALREADY HERE! (for more information on how you can support your local girls without involving your lips or your hips visit www.girlscouts.org or search #girlsmatter)
So how do we handle this? Avoid them? Eat them and get it over with knowing it will be another year before we are faced with this again? Put them in the freezer and promise not to eat them (in front of witnesses anyway)?
I’m not going to lie, I can put away a sleeve of Do-Si-Dos with a glass of milk before I even blink and realize what happened. But how many points is that exactly?

Do I need to get the smelling salts for you too? I almost passed out…my beloved sleeve of Do-Si-Dos that I have enjoyed so many times in the past is 18 Smart Points. I could think of less tasty things to spend my allowance on but still. So how am I going to handle this once a year indulgence since avoiding them all together is really not an option:
- Only buy what hubby will eat. It’s an option but likely not one that will make me very happy since he will be enjoying Thin Mints and I’ll be on the couch secretly hoping they will give him a tummy ache (not really…ok, maybe a little bit)
- Buy my favorite and immediately put in manageable size portions. A great option for me if the cookie police are on duty to make sure I don’t make a consumption violation
- Buy my favorite, keep one serving and immediately give the rest away to someone I can trust to not hand them back to me when I beg. Maybe my favorite option so far…I get to enjoy a few but can’t go wild.
- Donate them. Did you know many food pantries and churches love to offer Girl Scout Cookies in their family boxes? I mean really…you are down on your luck, in line to get what is probably your umpteenth bag of rice, jar of peanut butter, and sack of potatoes (because you can totally make something out of that combo) and SURPRISE! some awesome person who has never even met you thought you might need a little pick me up. It’s a win-win situation…I LOVE THIS IDEA!
- Also according to my friend Laura (my Girl Scout guru) “troops can choose a charity to donate to if they prefer. But we offer this option that takes all the work out of it for the troops, and they get a patch for getting people to donate to this program. It’s pretty cool! http://www.girlscoutcsa.org/en/cookies/operation-appreciation.html”
