Last week was Chat #377 “How To Deal With Setbacks Without Blaming Yourself!”
You’ve been experiencing setbacks since the day you were born. You could even say we were “born” to take a step back. You know why?
Good old Albert Einstein said it best “Anyone who has never made a mistake has never tried anything new”
Ready to get our hands dirty and make some mistakes?
So You Fell Down
Remember when I said you were born to take a step back? A step back or a setback is just a reversal in progress. It doesn’t mean failure, it’s just a temporary reversal. When you were learning to walk you had many “reversals” in your progress. If you learned to read and write, same. Some of you learned to swim, to ride a bike, to speak in front of crowds. And I guarantee you didn’t do it without any reversals in progress. So you fell down, get up.
Check Your Toolbelt
While you were experiencing reversals in every single other thing you’ve learned how to do, you had tools. Or you gathered tools. Or you worked together with someone else and created tools.
- Learning to ride a bike? Maybe your tool was training wheels or a loved one who was willing to run along beside you
- Learning to cook? You may have cookbooks, or a favorite cooking channel, or some fancy gadgets in your toolbelt
- Learning to navigate your weight loss journey? Some excellent tools are WW meetings, journals, favorite Facebook groups, and more!
It’s Not a Setback, It’s a Setup
I’m getting ready to get all Jesus on you so if that’s not your thing just tune out for a second. For the rest of us, there is a common belief that every setback is really just God getting us ready (a setup) for what’s next. Think about it. If you didn’t have that setback at work you wouldn’t have been set up for that interview for your dream job. Just like if you hadn’t had a setback in your weight you wouldn’t have been set up to join this amazing group of ladies and make new friends from all over the country. Tim Tebow said on Instagram “Every setback is just a set up for what’s coming next”. See that setback for a setup to what’s coming next!
Your homework was #SetbackOrSetup!. If you are still alive you’ve had setbacks and will likely have many more. Tell us a time your setback turned into an “aha! This was a setup for what was coming next!”
Let’s see how you did:
- Ann’s setback was knee surgery. But now she knows that was a setup for being able to participate in even more activity than before!
- Heather suffered a setback when her meal plan service started repeating the same meals over and over. This was a total setup for making a trip to the library, getting her hubby’s input and planning some meals together!
- Mary’s setback was some weight creeping back up. But that was a setup for getting back on track by…tracking!!
Bravo, you did it!
This Week’s Topic: “How To Build A Tracking Routine!”
Quick! What are three things you do every day without even thinking about it?
rou·tine
noun
- a sequence of actions regularly followed; a fixed program.
“I settled down into a routine of work and sleep”
adjective
- performed as part of a regular procedure rather than for a special reason.
“the principal insisted that this was just a routine annual drill”
verb
organize according to a routine.
“all had been routined with smoothness”
Ready to get our hands dirty and make some mistakes?
Paper. Picture. Progress.
When you do track what is your preferred method?
Do you prefer writing everything down with paper and pencil? Keeping a journal? Jotting it down in a calendar?
What about snapping a picture of what you are eating? Does that help you remember what it was and to track it?
Or would you rather open up your trusty WW app and scan, scroll or search? What is your favorite tracking feature in the app?
What Time Is It?
When do you prefer to track?
As you eat? Before you eat? After you’re done? At the end of the day?
Do any of you pre-track a meal or a day or even a week ahead?
And raise your hand if you’re like me and track one meal per day, most days and still consider it a win!
Regularly, Not Perfectly
So I want you to return to the definition of routine back at the beginning of this section.
Routine (noun): a sequence of actions regularly followed.
Notice it didn’t say perfectly. Or three times a day. Or every meal. Or even once a day, it just says “regularly”. Consistency is more important than completely. Time to find your “regularly”!
This Week’s Homework: #NoPerfectionHere
Your homework for this week is #NoPerfectionHere!. If you tracked every day you win, one day you win, one meal, you win, if you opened your app today guess what? You win! So your homework is #NoPerfectionHere and literally all you have to do is track one thing (or one meal, or one day) in YOUR preferred method of tracking and post a picture. That’s it, that’s all, even if you just click coffee in your app…YOU WIN! Now DO YOUR HOMEWORK because I promise there is someone who needs the idea you have already rattling around in your head. Whatever it is let us know, I promise your decision to participate this week will help you AND someone else! Then type it, snap it, share it however you like, and then tag me for your next cool badge!
Don’t forget to do your homework #NoPerfectionHere! and tag me when you share on social media!

Extra Credit: Tik Tok Jalapeno Popper Cucumber Salad Viral Recipe!
We are making a viral TikTok recipe tonight that I think will be a favorite at my house! Lilly who works for me brought this recipe to my attention, and I will be posting a full recipe soon!
This recipe includes one of my favorite things… cucumbers! And you know I have been having great success growing them, so let’s make something delicious with them.
The ingredients in this Jalapeno Popper Cucumber Salad:
- Cucumbers
- Jalapenos
- Onions
- Bacon Bits
- Cream Cheese
- Sour Cream
- Salt & Pepper
- Shredded Cheese
The ingredients sound fabulous… but where are the amounts??? Lilly advised me to go watch the TikTok, and honestly…. the guy really didn’t give me any more info than that!
I will come back and link when the recipe is posted, but this will just be a quick review. And I have to say… this was delicious! I’ll be very interested to see if this is approved even by the cucumbers hates in my house. My recommendation: let it all sit overnight before you try it, so the flavors will mix together and blend better.
Did Lilly do well recommending this recipe? Let me know in the comments below!
