Last week was Chat #393 “Zero Point Power Up!”
This week we were supposed to concentrate on the new Zero Point Foods added with the app updates last week.
The app update has lots of fun bells and whistles that take a little digging to figure out. What are they?… Let’s find out!
Your homework was #OpenYourApp. I’m not asking you to figure it all out this week, but I AM asking you to at least open your app and check out one new feature!
- Tina is enjoying the new app features and says this is the most she’s tracked in a long time!
- Carol Lou was early for a flight to see her peanut so she played with the app while she excitedly waited to head out to see her! (oh and her son too LOL)
- Sylvia had to wait an extra minute for her zero points foods to update. In the meantime she went to see her new great niece and found out the mom’s twin sister is also pregnant!
Bravo, you did it!
This Week’s Topic: “Holiday Recipe Swap!”
Don’t panic, you didn’t need to get a recipe ready to share with the group 🙂
Every day is a good day to find some good swaps for your favorite recipes. The holidays are a GREAT day to make some of those swaps… Let’s get to swapping!
TIME TO PRIORITIZE
The first thing we will need to do is prioritize which events, meals and even foods are most important. John wants to have KFC for dinner on Christmas Eve. The sentiment behind why he wants that particular meal is real. My desire to spend a bunch of my holiday points on it is not.
START WITH SOME SWAPS
After you’ve prioritized those events, meals or foods you need to start with some swaps. Swapping in a zero point food for something higher. Using your newly added zero point foods or some of your old favorites, swap them in for a higher points something you want to swap out
HOLIDAY HELPERS
NOW is when you should panic because you don’t have a recipe to swap. I’m only kind of sort of kidding. You have time to find one to share OR you can ask our group for ideas if you need one. Or two.
This Week’s Homework: #HolidayHelpers
Your homework for this week is #HolidayHelpers. I want you to either share a lightened up recipe (yours or one you found) OR ask someone for a recipe that is already lightened up. If the shared recipe has a link with a nutritional info please include it so we can bring it into our apps with the new feature! Now DO YOUR HOMEWORK because I promise there is someone who needs the idea you have already rattling around in your head. Whatever it is let us know, I promise your decision to participate this week will help you AND someone else! Then type it, snap it, share it however you like, and then tag me for your next cool badge!
Don’t forget to do your homework is #HolidayHelpers and tag me when you share on social media!

The Amazon Wish List is UP and I so appreciate your support. This will provide a way for us to continue testing products for you, trying out new gadgets and recipes, and refilling the IYHAE pantry since it doesn’t look like the budget cuts are budging. If you don’t already know, it costs more than $100 per week to provide this free content to you and that doesn’t include my time. Your support really does help keep us going!

Extra Credit: Zero Point Vegetable Beef Soup!
Alyssa was back with us again this week to help me with the recipe for and play a potato game!
Because we have a new list of zero point foods, I put together a recipe that incorporates as many of those foods while still being delicious and filling! There will be a dedicated post of the recipe later on, but here is the ingredients list:
- Mirepoix (Carrots, Onions, and Celery)
- 93% Lean Ground Beef
- Garlic
- Olive Oil
- Diced Tomatoes
- Chicken Bone Broth
- Vegetable Soup Mix
This will make a delicious Vegetable Beef Soup and I can’t wait to enjoy this soup over the course of the next week!
Now, while that is cooking… what on earth is a potato game?!?! Now that potatoes are zero points, we are going to play a game to find out what zero points really means! We will be looking through all kinds of potatoes to find what’s really inside them.
2 Small New Potatoes:
Calories: 70
Fiber: 2g
Protein: 2g
1 Medium Russet Potato:
Calories: 128
Fiber: 3g
Protein: 3.5g
1 Medium Sweet Potato:
Calories: 112
Fiber: 4g
Protein: 2g
1 Large Russet Potato:
Calories: 278
Fiber: 6.5g
Protein: 7.5g
We sent John to the grocery store to get potatoes, and we told him to get a bag of medium potatoes. Now, in John’s mind… if medium is good, jumbo potatoes must be better! While the potatoes were still zero points, eating 1 large russet potato had all of us struggling with being over-full. It still has over 200 calories and its HUGE, even if it is technically zero points still. The sweet potato won as the best value of all of them with a good serving size and the number of calories. If you ate one of these potatoes 5 days in a row, the large russet potato would give you over 1000 calories EXTRA over the sweet potato! That’s crazy! This is just a fun, silly reminder that even though something is zero points doesn’t mean it doesn’t affect your weight.
Which potato would you be choosing? Let us know in the comments below?
