Last week was Chat #394 “Holiday Recipe Swap!”
Don’t panic, you didn’t need to get a recipe ready to share with the group 🙂
Every day is a good day to find some good swaps for your favorite recipes. The holidays are a GREAT day to make some of those swaps… Let’s get to swapping!
TIME TO PRIORITIZE
The first thing we will need to do is prioritize which events, meals and even foods are most important. John wants to have KFC for dinner on Christmas Eve. The sentiment behind why he wants that particular meal is real. My desire to spend a bunch of my holiday points on it is not.
START WITH SOME SWAPS
After you’ve prioritized those events, meals or foods you need to start with some swaps. Swapping in a zero point food for something higher. Using your newly added zero point foods or some of your old favorites, swap them in for a higher points something you want to swap out
HOLIDAY HELPERS
NOW is when you should panic because you don’t have a recipe to swap. I’m only kind of sort of kidding. You have time to find one to share OR you can ask our group for ideas if you need one. Or two.
Your homework was #HolidayHelpers. I want you to either share a lightened up recipe (yours or one you found) OR ask someone for a recipe that is already lightened up. If the shared recipe has a link with a nutritional info please include it so we can bring it into our apps with the new feature!
Let’s see how you did:
- Madison shared a recipe for a one point peanut butter chocolate ball that also has a lot of protein!
- Debbi shared Mediterranean recipe links and said she especially loves the bowl recipes!
- And Mary Ann had a win win! Her swap Christmas dinner was German potato salad instead of regular potato salad . She saved 2 points , regular potato salad in the app is 4 points . Both of the recipes are in the WW app and bonus, her family now prefers German potato salad to regular!
Bravo, you did it!
This Week’s Topic: “The Gift Of Gratitude!”
I know you’ve still got some empty holiday bags or wrapping sitting around. Go grab one and come right back!
We’re going to find some gifts to fill your bag… Let’s get to gift shopping!
How Well Do You Know Yourself?
Sounds weird I know but how well do you really know yourself? Here are a few simple questions to get us started:
- Is there any area of your life where you feel completely out of control? Or completely in control?
- If something is forbidden or “off limits” do you want it more or less?
- Do you find it easier to do things for other people or for yourself?
No Weigh Thanks Today
Without seeing what I’ve typed, I am assuming this will come across as “no way thanks today” which is what alot of us may be feeling after the honeymoon of the holidays is done. I mean no WEIGH thanks today. Like what have you done or experienced this week that you are thankful for that has nothing to do with how much you weigh?
These Three Gifts
The Wise Men brought gifts to celebrate the arrival of their King. I like to think we are pretty wise so let’s find Three Gifts we can bring to ourselves! You can use one of the questions from the first section or find one of your own.
If you answered that you were feeling out of control in an area, maybe you could give yourself the gift of some training from a professional, or guidance from someone who has experienced the same thing, or maybe even just looking up a video on YouTube about the subject
If you answered yes to wanting something more if it’s forbidden or off limits, maybe you can give yourself the gift of enjoying that thing under a controlled situation, or with witnesses, or at a special time
Or if you answered it’s easier to do things for other people, maybe you need to drop a present in that bag of promising to do something for yourself!
What three gifts would you give yourself to start this new year? Self awareness and practicing gratitude for what you can do is the best gift you can give yourself!
This Week’s Homework: #TheseThreeGifts
Your homework for this week is #TheseThreeGifts. I want you to take the empty holiday bag or wrapping you found and put your gift to yourself inside! Now DO YOUR HOMEWORK because I promise there is someone who needs the idea you have already rattling around in your head. Whatever it is let us know, I promise your decision to participate this week will help you AND someone else! Then type it, snap it, share it however you like, and then tag me for your next cool badge!
Don’t forget to do your homework is #TheseThreeGifts and tag me when you share on social media!

The Amazon Wish List is UP and I so appreciate your support. This will provide a way for us to continue testing products for you, trying out new gadgets and recipes, and refilling the IYHAE pantry since it doesn’t look like the budget cuts are budging. If you don’t already know, it costs more than $100 per week to provide this free content to you and that doesn’t include my time. Your support really does help keep us going!

Extra Credit: Soup & A Side!
Last week we discussed a bunch of new zero point foods, some of which we used to make some Beef Vegetable Soup! But today we are going to focus on something that you can put with your soup.
Now these foods don’t have to be with just soup, but they will add a little fun to your zero/low point meals. Before we fire up the griddle (Thank you Carol Lou for the gift card!), lets talk about some different options:
- Nabisco Premium Soup Oyster Crackers – 22 for 2 pts! If you like crackers with your soup, these are a fantastic option!
- Cornbread – You can buy/make cornbread, but it isn’t low in points. However!! If you are eating it with a zero point soup, it’s well worth the extra points to enjoy. For reference, a Cracker Barrel cornbread muffin is 6 pts.
- Grilled Cheese – Grilled Cheese is a classic to put with your soup. It is such a quick, delicious treat. I use 2 slices of Nature’s Own White Wheat and some Velveeta cheese for a total of 4-5 pts, depending on how much cheese you use.
Now that the griddle is ready, Alyssa is actually making this recipe! It is a recipe from Weight Watchers called Cheese Crisps, and they are exactly what you think they are. They are 1 pt per crisp, an they are so yummy!
Alyssa will be using two different kinds of shredded cheese: 1 cup Part Skim Mozzarella, 2tbsp Parmesan, 1 spoonful of All Purpose Flour, and then I added some nutritional yeast.
I put about 1 tbsp’s worth in little circles on the griddle, and once they are done cooking they are ready to eat!
So so simple, and they are absolutely delicious! Can’t get any easier than this!
Are you going to try making Cheese Crisps? Let us know in the comments what cheese you’ll be using!
