Last week in Chat #313: How To Make At Home Eating More Exciting! we talked all about how eating at home can become a drag if we let it.
Sound familiar?
No one is saying you can’t eat out, over at a friend’s , at your desk, but what about spending a few meals eating at home this week? Doesn’t sound exciting? Just hold on there’s going to be a party starting up in here!
KISS (Keep It Simple Sweetheart)
Eating at home doesn’t have to be a three course affair. Some of my favorite meals at home are simple, delicious, many times prepped ahead and in the freezer. Pick a favorite quick add in or a simple go to recipe or two and keep them in your hip pocket (or where you can see them LOL)
Eat Your Words
Literally.
Give me three words that you may see on a menu that makes you absolutely want whatever it is they are peddling that day. Your favorite place to dine out wouldn’t put in print “a cold bottom dwelling critter with a little sauce on the side” would they? What if when we prep (and track!) our meals we said something instead like “chilled jumbo shrimp with a yummy lite lemon, teriyaki or orange sauce for dipping!” By the way you can get those yummy, lite, and sugar free sauces from G Hughes here
Pretty Plate It
I LOVE a pretty plate! Or bowl. Or cup. They don’t have to be expensive either. Your local thrift store has tons of broken sets of place settings and other odds and ends that can make a pretty place setting without breaking your budget. And as my fearless leader Gwen reminded us this week…use your china if you have it, your kids sure don’t want it!
Your homework for last week was #PrettyPlater. This week’s homework was so fun and I love what you came up with! Just put a single meal or snack on a pretty plate, a cool cup, anything “fancy” or colorful or just plain fun…. and then type it, snap it, share it however you like, and then tag me for your next cool badge!
Let’s see how you did!
- Sandra Riley made a pretty plate with sliced turkey breast, quinoa & brown rice… only 7 points too!
- Deanna Gomez made a “nibble platter” with a gorgeous blend of zero point foods with chamoy drizzle & low sodium Tajin!
Bravo, you did it!
This Week’s Topic: How to Turn Small Wins into Big Victories!
Tracking your food, checking points, or just simply making dinner at home doesn’t always feel like a big deal. But it is all of those small wins that lead to a bigger victory of losing weight and feeling healthier! There are a few other things that you may not realize are contributing to your big victory that we will dive into in this chat!
Reflecting on How We Overcome Barriers is Critical for Weight Loss Success
We aren’t turning around and looking back, just looking in the rearview mirror to see how we have overcome obstacles in our past. We don’t want to dwell on them, but acknowledging that we conquered them is critical for our success.
Studies Show When We Recognize The Effort We put into Our Accomplishment, We Tend to Feel Better About Our Progress
Think about that for a minute. Who thinks it’s a big deal to go to the grocery store? If you went to the store, farmers market, or did a grocery pickup, you put in the effort to make your own food and not go get fast food. You put in the effort to gather ingredients to make your own meals and have control over your points. That effort should make you feel proud of your progress!
This Gives Us a Sense of Motivation to Keep Moving Towards our Goals.
Now these are not the same as NSVs. Non-Scale Victories are like getting to move down a loop on your belt or bend over to shave your legs with ease. These little things boost your motivation and give you a boost to keep going towards bigger goals.
This Week’s Homework: #VictoryLapper
Your homework for this week is #VictoryLapper. Find that little thing that seems simple but is overwhelming, find a way to get it done, and then memorialize it with us …. and then type it, snap it, share it however you like, and then tag me for your next cool badge!
Don’t forget to do your homework #VictoryLapper and tag me when you share on social media!

Extra Credit: Yum or Dumb Kitchen Hacks
TikTok Kitchen Hacks… are they Yum or Dumb?
These three kitchen hacks seem like a good idea, but are they really? We investigated 2 TikTok hacks and one I created myself. Let’s see if they are YUM or DUMB!
- How to Ripen an Avocado: The hack is to wrap the avocado in aluminum foil and put it in the oven for 10 mins at 200 degrees. I put mine in the air fryer for 15 mins. The avocado felt a little softer… but was it ripe? We cut it open and it was still pretty hard. I don’t think this worked! The pit didn’t want to come out, and the peel was difficult to get off. This hack is DUMB! (although you all gave us some great pointers to make it a good one in the future!)
- This one I made up, so I know it works. I had some english muffins and jam at work, but I didn’t have any cream cheese! But I don’t use much, so I started making my own. I have several recipes that use it, and there is a tutorial on this blog on how to make your own Fat Free Cream Cheese. All you do is use non-fat greek yogurt and strain it! I bought a smaller container of nonfat greek yogurt, took the lid off and removed the plastic film, and replaced the aluminum foil lid back. I punched a few holes into the foil lid, flipped it over onto a mug, and left it in the fridge overnight. And look! I have a little bit of cream cheese now!!! This hack is a YUM!
- This hack is from WW reposting a TikTok hack. The point is making hard boiled eggs ready without having to peel them. I modified it slightly based on another one I’ve seen where they put the eggs in a baking dish and then into a water bath. This keeps the eggs from getting too dry. I cracked 5 eggs in the smaller pan and then into a bigger pan with water in it. I baked them in the oven on 350 for 30 mins. They came out so easily, and all you have to do is cut them up and enjoy! This hack is a YUM!
