News and Reviews April 2023

  • Hoppy Easter Every Bunny! Is Easter just another day food wise for you or are there any issues we need to chat about?
  • The best news this week…I got my car back! I have no more money LOL but at least I’ve got wheels 🙂
  • I was at Gwen’s official WW Zoom via Connect on Thursday night, where were you? If you need help finding it let me know and I hope to see you this week!

Last week in Chat #312: How To Handle a Small Weight Gain, we asked ourselves the hard questions – Handle it? A gain? But I thought this was about weight LOSS??

Raise your hand if your fondest hopes and dreams would be realized if your weight loss journey looks like a straight downward line. Now be honest and raise your hand if your journey looks like some crazy ants took off and started walking in drunk circles LOL!

It’s completely normal during your weight loss journey to plateau (we chatted about that last week) but it’s also totally normal to even gain a little weight along the way. So what if that happens to you?

You gained a couple of pounds but your trendline is down.

Gaining a couple of pounds is no reason for panic if your trend over time is still downward. I know it can be disheartening but try making your own spreadsheet to watch the overall trend or use your WW app to track your weight and then click on the 4 little arrows. This will expand to let you view 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, 1 year and all time weights so you get a realistic view of how you are really doing!

Step back and reflect (remember the uncovering your eyes chat?)

Put your hands over your eyes and see the small weight gain right there. Right in front of you and there’s nothing else you can see right?

Now pull your hands back and check what happened this week (or this month) like a special event. Or new medication. Or a move to a new town.

Now pull them back even farther and realize it’s one event…or your body will adjust to the medication….or maybe you’ll find an excuse to check out your new surroundings and get some extra activity in!

Make a plan and check it thrice!

You know how I love 3’s!

  1. Decide NOW how many pounds up it will take before you take action
  2. Make a plan and write it down for what happens when you hit that number
  3. Phone a friend, check in with your leader or mentor, or reach out to someone in our group if you hit that number and tell them what your plan is!

Your homework for last week was #PoundCrusher. This week’s homework is to let us know how many pounds it takes to get outside your weight comfort zone and what you plan to do if that ever happens. Just writing your homework down for us makes you 42% more likely to do it…. and then type it, snap it, share it however you like, and then tag me for your next cool badge!

Let’s see how you did!

  • Trish had a psychologist tell her 17 years ago never to let her weight fluctuate more than 5 lb. So she tracks, weighs and measures and 17 years later never ventures far from her goal but gets back on track immediately if she starts to stray!
  • Mary Ann made a promise to her late husband to take care of herself. Her new goal is to stay within 5 pounds and she realizes she can’t do it on her own. She is attending meetings and getting back to basics to keep that promise to him (and to herself!)
  • Syvia’s goal is you guessed it..5 pounds! She says she learned an important lesson a long time ago. Even after successfully losing 100 pounds (you heard me ONE HUNDRED) that she still has to be mindful, stay close to her basics and both track and prep her veggies ahead of time!

Bravo, you did it!

This Week’s Topic: How To Make At Home Eating More Exciting!

Someone in our in-person workshop was asked, “What’s your favorite thing to make for dinner?” Her reply, “Reservations!”

Sound familiar?

No one is saying you can’t eat out, over at a friend’s , at your desk, but what about spending a few meals eating at home this week? Doesn’t sound exciting? Just hold on there’s going to be a party starting up in here!

KISS (Keep It Simple Sweetheart)

Eating at home doesn’t have to be a three course affair. Some of my favorite meals at home are simple, delicious, many times prepped ahead and in the freezer. Pick a favorite quick add in or a simple go to recipe or two and keep them in your hip pocket (or where you can see them LOL)

Eat Your Words

Literally.

Give me three words that you may see on a menu that makes you absolutely want whatever it is they are peddling that day. Your favorite place to dine out wouldn’t put in print “a cold bottom dwelling critter with a little sauce on the side” would they? What if when we prep (and track!) our meals we said something instead like “chilled jumbo shrimp with a yummy lite lemon, teriyaki or orange sauce for dipping!” By the way you can get those yummy, lite, and sugar free sauces from G Hughes here

Pretty Plate It

I LOVE a pretty plate! Or bowl. Or cup. They don’t have to be expensive either. Your local thrift store has tons of broken sets of place settings and other odds and ends that can make a pretty place setting without breaking your budget. And as my fearless leader Gwen reminded us this week…use your china if you have it, your kids sure don’t want it!

This Week’s Homework: #PrettyPlater

Your homework for this week is #PrettyPlater. This week’s homework is so fun and I can’t wait to see what you come up with. Just put a single meal or snack on a pretty plate, a cool cup, anything “fancy” or colorful or just plain fun…. and then type it, snap it, share it however you like, and then tag me for your next cool badge!

Don’t forget to do your homework #PrettyPlater and tag me when you share on social media!

Extra Credit: Egg Hunt Eggstra!

Easter Egg hunts aren’t just for kids anymore.

We had a ton of fun making these cool and colorful eggs for our Easter festivities this year, but Nonna is smart enough to hold out a dozen for eating!

Some simple egg dying (and eating) tips!

  • Hardboiled eggs in the air fryer are in my opinion the way to go. You can watch my easy to follow and even easier to do video here. Lilly got a 90 second training on how to do this on Saturday morning while we were at work. 36 eggs perfectly hard boiled eggs later she’s a pro!
    • Room temperature eggs (doesn’t matter what color or age of the eggs)
    • 4 at a time in your air fryer basket
    • Cook on 260 for 16 minutes and then immediately into an ice bath for five minute
  • Color and immediately re-refrigerate any eggs you plan on eating later. Eggs left out for more than 2 hours should be used for hunting, not for eating
  • Make some cool deviled egg combinations instead of your grandma’s plain old mayo and mustard version (not that there is anything wrong with grandma’s eggs, I love them too!)

What’s your favorite way to devil up an egg? Tell us in the comments below or if you make one of mine let us know how you liked it!
