The month’s theme is “Build Confidence” and will focus each week on a different way to remind us that feeling more confident can help with our weight loss and well journey!
Last week during Chat #237: Better Body Confidence! we thought of our favorite person on this planet. This could be a friend, a family member, a colleague or even someone famous that you’ve never met.
Then we took 60 seconds and quickly wrote down 3 reasons they are your favorite.
What kinds of things did you list? Probably things like: smart, super funny, always ready to help someone, rushed into a burning building to rescue puppies and kittens…stuff like that right?
I typed this before we started the chat and I’m no mentalist but I can guarantee you did not say things like: she has such tight buns and thighs, his biceps are huge, she has no wrinkles or even saggy skin!
So why do we think that’s what our favorite people are saying about us? Let’s start with just one body part and learn how to not only have a better image, but learn to love it and what it does for you!
- Pick a part – Choose one body part that you tend to focus on when you look in the mirror.
- What does it do – What does that body part actually do? Lift grandchildren? Pucker up and whistle a happy tune? Walk you to and from where you need to go?
- Celebrate – Make a mantra to help you remember why that body part is special and what it means to you!
Your homework for last week was #BodyConfidence. Pick a body part and make a mantra about why it’s special….and then type it, snap it, however you want to share it and then tag me for your next cool badge!
Let’s see how you did!
- Lynn says her flabby arms give good hugs!
- Barbara’s arms help her hold things, cook, and write!
- Sylvia says her arms are too big but she couldn’t do Zumba or line dance without them!
- Vicki says she has laugh lines…but she loves to laugh!
Bravo, you did it!
This Week’s Topic: More Confidence at The Scale!
It’s the only day of the week worse than Monday….the dreaded WEIGH-IN DAY! (cue the spooky music)
For many of us there is more anxiety leading up to our appointment with the scale than there is a root canal. How many of you have developed pre-weigh-in rituals like:
- Wearing the same clothes
- Pottying before you hit the scale
- Lucky weigh-in shoes
- Same time of day/place
- Always picking the same scale
Even though the scale is just an inanimate object that doesn’t get to determine your day, your week, or your self worth you can’t just ignore it. The scale does, however, provide valuable data that over the long run needs to be used during your journey. Ignoring the scale doesn’t make it go away, so let’s make a plan on how to have more confidence leading up to it!
- A Time and a Place – It doesn’t matter when or where but once you decide stick with it
- Pep Talk – Before you ever step on the scale give yourself a pep talk. Remember how you tracked this week or the extra walk you took on lunch
- Post Game Plan – Win or lose, go ahead and decide what you’re going to do after you enter your weight in your app even BEFORE you get on the scale
This Week’s Homework: #ScaleConfidence
Your homework for this week is #ScaleConfidence. Tell us when and where you will weigh and what your post game plan is….and then type it, snap it, however you want to share it and then tag me for your next cool badge!

Extra Credit: WW On The Go!
2020 was the year of the shut in. More hobby farms, new kitchen gadgets. and TikTok recipes were explored more than any other time in recent history for the U.S. But delta variant or not, this year we are back to football games, kids to soccer practice, travel dinners, and meals in the car. Are you out of practice like I am? Hang on…here we go!
Getting ready to be on the go again isn’t easy, but we’re all in it together. Here are some of the ways I’m going to prepare for a more “on the go” lifestyle:
Fast Food Finds
Due to sodium content, lack of real nutrition, and the high likelihood of abuse I don’t recommend fast food drive-thrus, but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.
- Scroll down the homepage of your WW app and find Restaurants. You can either search by SmartPoints values or by Restaurant name. Do NOT get in line without knowing what you are going to order!
- Winner winner Chick-Fil-A dinner! 12 grilled nuggets, a cup of fruit, and a small diet lemonade are only 3 points on Purple! (Pro tip: avoid the sauces if you can)
- Dunkin: A Bacon, Egg and Cheese Wake-Up Wrap and a Medium Iced Coffee with Almond Milk is 6 SmartPoints on Purple and everyone in your car can find something for an early morning meal (Pro tip: the Veggie Egg White Wrap is only 1 point less and the Turkey Sausage Wake-Up Wrap is 1 point more!)
- Taco Bell: I take a piece of fruit with me like an apple or banana and just get one Doritos Locos Hard Shell Taco for 5 Points (Pro tip: do NOT be fooled and get the taco salad…depending on what you fill it with it could be 17 to 19 points!)
Hotel Sleepovers
Traveling to conventions and competitions where you spend most of your time at the hotel can be a weight loss nightmare…but it doesn’t have to be!
- Most decent size hotels have a complimentary breakfast. Choose things like hard boiled eggs, fresh fruit, and yogurt (scan the yogurt before eating if you’re not sure about the points)
- Take your own packs of lower sugar instant oatmeal or instant grits so you can control the points
- Need to grab it and go? Take a banana and ONE of the small peanut butter cups for 2 points or less
Sit Down Scenarios
When you’re invited to post-game parties, dinner meetings for work, or hanging out with the other parents while the kids are on inning eleventy-seven…
- Pick 3 – Throw in 3 choices of your own when the voting on where to go starts so you stand a chance of going somewhere other than the-all-you-can-eat pizza buffet
- Know Before You Go – If the restaurant is on the WW app, look up what you are going to eat and track the points BEFORE YOU ORDER
- My top picks:
- Cracker Barrel – 6 grilled chicken tenderloins, green beans, pinto beans (yes I know that’s two kinds of bean…move on), and seasonal fruit is only 4 SP Purple (Pro tip: the biscuit without butter is 2 points less than the cornbread if you want to splurge!)
- Panera – a cup of Panera Bread Turkey Chili and half of a Bacon Turkey Bravo on Tomato Basil is 11 points on purple and everyone will want what you got!
- Applebees – 6 oz Top Sirloin, house salad with FF Italian Dressing, and an add-on grilled shrimp skewer is 11 points on Purple. That’s a lot of food for 11 points! (Pro tip: do NOT get the steamed broccoli…it is covered in butter and very few locations can pull off not including it)
Cooler Tips & Tricks
Whether you are sitting at a baseball tournament or headed out camping, these are great tips and tricks we actually use!
- Buy Pre-Packaged – You aren’t going to be able to cut up a watermelon or wash grapes on the sidelines of a soccer game. It may cost a little more but the convenience is totally worth it for these situations.
- Pack the Right Foods – Some of my favorites are:
- Hard Boiled Eggs – They can travel ANYWHERE! Go ahead and peel them before you leave home and put them in a container so they’re easy to grab and go.
- Light Cheese – Babybels, string cheese, and other cheese sticks are great!
- Unsweetened Applesauce – These are a quick and easy way to get some fruit
- Small Packages of Nuts – They fit well in your cooler and as a bonus, taking only a small amount will keep you from overeating out of a larger package!
- Finger Sized Vegetables – Baby carrots, mini cucumbers, and other sturdy handheld vegetables are a great snack!
- Low-Point Tortillas – Instead of packing bread that will need to be handled with care, make a “sandwich” with a tortilla instead! Or, roll it up for an easy walk-around meal.
- John’s faves!
- That Man’s Turkey cut into cubes so he can grab and snack while he’s driving
- Tortilla with ½ of a Jif To Go and a banana
- Hotel banana or apple and tiny peanut butter cup
- Pro Tip: Don’t trust things that look healthy. Snacks that you’ll find at gas station convenience stores can be deceptive. Make your own homemade dupes ahead of time to get more food for less points!
