WW (Weight Watchers) Chat #185: When You’re Active

We are in the home stretch for the 6 week charm!

Last week in Chat #184 we learned that food can have other benefits besides long term weight loss and health improvements.

Both of my parents suffered illnesses that were complicated by water retention or retaining extra fluids was an issue. I have found that too much sodium can make a 3-5 pound swing in my weight as well as cause the tops of my feet to swell and feel tight. I used watermelon, cucumbers, carrots and no salt spices this week and – TADA! No more swollen feet!

Your homework was to find some #foodswithbenefits and let us know how they gave you some immediate results. Let’s see how you did!

  • Carol Lou made a pot of chicken “noodle” soup with a rotisserie chicken, homemade stock, and yellow squash for her noodles. Her soup is packed full of benefits including: no added ingredients since she made the stock herself, protein from white meat chicken to keep her full longer, tons of vitamins from the veggies, and best of all – no carbs!
  • Sylvia put together a delicious meatless taco bowl and gained a benefit from every ingredient! She included black beans for fiber, corn for fiber and potassium, tomatoes for color, lettuce for a variety of vitamins and nutrients, Greek yogurt for protein, salsa and Dak’s Kaboom for spice.
  • Sandra’s go-to food with benefits is spinach. She adds it to her scrambled eggs, uses it in bean soup, and uses it as a side dish with dinner for some delicious added fiber!

This Week’s Topic: What Happens In Your Body When You’re Active

First, name some long term big picture perks from exercise: weight loss, lower medication, toned arms and buns.

But did you know the more immediate impact something has, the more likely you are to do it? Getting fit is a great reason to exercise but it may be hard to imagine what that may look like years or even just months from now.

 

Now name some immediate benefits from even just one workout:

  • Feel good
  • Better sleep
  • Get to be with friends
  • Feel powerful
  • Less stress
  • Improve balance
  • Sets the tone for the rest of the day
